What are Solvent and Solvent Cleaners?

Solvents and solvent cleaners are substances that are capable of dissolving or suspending other substances. They are commonly used in a wide range of industrial applications, including cleaning, degreasing, and surface preparation. Solvents can be divided into two main categories: polar solvents and non-polar solvents. Polar solvents have a polar molecule, such as water and alcohols and Non-polar solvents such as mineral spirits and hexane have non-polar molecules.

In terms of performance, solvents are often highly effective at removing a wide range of stains and soils, including oil and grease, and are suitable for use in heavy-duty industrial cleaning applications. They can also be used for a variety of tasks, such as degreasing and surface preparation.

However, when compared to bio-based cleaners, solvents have a number of drawbacks in terms of environmental impact, safety, and disposability. Solvents are often toxic and can have negative effects on air and water quality, as well as on human health. They also require special handling and disposal procedures to prevent contamination of the environment.

Additionally, solvents can be flammable, toxic and carcinogenic. They can also have negative effects on air and water quality, as well as on plants and natural organism’s health. They also require special handling and disposal procedures to prevent contamination of the environment. There are a range of biobased solvents which are free of the negative impacts as mentioned above and will depend on the industrial purchaser’s firm intent on adopting such solutions.

Bio-based cleaners, on the other hand, are made from natural, renewable resources and are biodegradable. They are less toxic and have a lower environmental impact than solvents. They are also safer for workers to use, and require less special handling and disposal procedures. Llie chemical Cleaners, Biobased cleaners are also available as Polar and Non Polar fluids., which are used based on their application areas. They perform extremely well in applications like:

  • Grease removal
  • Oil and Wax Cleaning
  • Rust and Limescale Removal
  • Paint stripping: The best paint stripper is a true Organic cleaner
  • Odour Removal
  • Cleaning Hospitality, Facilities and Common areas of workspace.
  • Washroom and Uric acid deposit removal
  • Stain removal from Clothes, Painted Metal surfaces and Walls
  • Gum, Wax and Sticky material Cleaning
  • Cleaning Inorganic SoIls from factories, Ships, Power Plants, Refineries and Heavy Industries
  • Cleaning Organic materials from Kitchens, Food Manufacturing, Food and Marine Export units

In terms of performance, bio-based cleaners are not as reactive as solvents, but are versatile and can be used for a variety of cleaning tasks. They can be effective at removing stains and soils, but may not be as strong as solvents for heavy-duty industrial cleaning applications. Bio-base cleaners are of higher solubility index- called Kb value., which means they can remove most contaminants at a faster rate than chemical products. Chemical products have a factor of reactivity, which is another form of cleaning- though more toxic and hazardous.

Industrial Solvents Cleaners

Chemical Cleaners are mostly made up of caustics, phosphates, Nitrates, Butyl Cellosolve, terpenes, Petroleum distillates and strong acids, which may not meet most compliance standards or be as eco friendly as Biobased cleaners.

The very reason why Bio-based solvent Cleaners were rejected by users is now their strength. Bio-based cleaners do not last as long as Chemical fluid, due to their inherent biodegradability. This was taken as their drawback- which now is their strength.

We at Evergreen Solution and Products provide a wide range of biobased cleaners. We have cleaners for Metal, Descaling, Hospitality and Multipurpose Industrial Cleaners amongst others. These are all bio based, high performance cleaners. Please feel free to contact us to know more about these solutions and how they can be applied to your requirements.

In conclusion, solvents and solvent cleaners are effective for a wide range of industrial applications, but have negative environmental impact, safety and disposability.
