Everything you need to know about High Power Ultrasonic Cleaners

What are High Power Ultrasonic Cleaners (HPUs)?

High-power ultrasonic cleaners (HPU) are devices which are specifically designed to operate at extreme power ranges and safely remove stubborn encrustations, coatings, layers of dirt, scale, oxidation, rust, paints and other contaminants from surfaces, such as engineering goods, automotive parts, painted bodies, pipes, medical equipment and parts used in the food processing industry. They use a combination of mechanical and thermal energy to break down dirt, grease, oils and other contaminants which are present on the surface being cleaned.

HPUs operate in frequency ranges of 40kHz to 110kHz and work with 4-5 Watts/litre power output, while more powerful HPUs will operate in 150k-250kHz. Lower frequencies generate more cavitation, meaning HPUs can remove stubborn dirt and contaminants more effectively than regular ultrasonic cleaners. Additionally, HPUs generate less heat, making them much safer and more versatile than other ultrasonic cleaners.

The benefits of High Power Ultrasonic Cleaners (HPUs)

  • One of the main benefits of High Power Ultrasonic cleaners is their ability to remove very stubborn dirt, grease, oils and other contaminants from surfaces. This is thanks to their ability to break bonds between molecules with low-frequency but higher energy waves. The cavitation energy on an HPU is far higher than normal ultrasonic cleaners, making them much more powerful and effective at removing dirt.
  • Additionally, in the medical industry, high-power ultrasonic cleaners are very effective at removing bacteria and other microbes from surfaces. This is due to the thermal energy generated by the HPU, which can kill bacteria and viruses on contact – helping to prevent the spread of potential illnesses.
  • Due to the low heat generated, HPUs are much safer than other ultrasonic cleaners.
  • The capacities of HPUs are also impressive, as they can hold sizable batches of items and heavy-duty industrial parts. The large tanks are also great for cleaning larger items such as engine blocks, whereas cleaning with a regular ultrasonic cleaner would be impossible. This makes HPUs an ideal option for cleaning larger surfaces and items.

Why are high-power ultrasonic cleaners better than normal ultrasonic cleaners?

High-power ultrasonic cleaners are far more powerful and effective than regular ultrasonic cleaners due to their higher wattage. The higher wattage and higher temperatures and frequencies generate more cavitation, allowing them to clean more effectively on larger surfaces. HPUs generate less heat and can hold larger items and batches, meaning they are much more suitable for cleaning medical equipment or parts used in the food processing industry. HPUs can also kill bacteria and other microorganisms, making them an excellent choice for cleaning medical equipment and instruments. The large-capacity HPUs also come with adjustable timer settings, making them very easy to use. This means you can fine-tune the timer setting to clean your items perfectly. The adjustable temperature settings also make them great for cleaning items which require a certain temperature for the cleaning process to be most effective.

HPUs have multiple benefits over other ultrasonic cleaners. The main benefits are:

  • Regular Ultrasonic Cleaners produce about 1 to 1.25 W/Litre while HPUs produce 3 – 4 Watts per litre which is a significant power increase considering most machines’ capacity ranges from 200 to 50,000 litres.
  • They also operate under higher temperatures and can achieve faster and better cleaning results. Cleaning tanks with temperatures up to 110 Deg C are achievable.
  • HPUs have a much higher cavitation rate than normal ultrasonic cleaners. This means that they can remove stubborn dirt and contaminants much more effectively.
  • HPUs are much more effective at removing bacteria and viruses from surfaces.
  • HPUs are much more versatile in cleaning surfaces that are regularly not cleaned with ultrasonic such as wine barrels, and it is also used for removing paints from surfaces. Hence HPUs have a larger range of applications.
  • The cumulative effect of high power, temperature and frequency produce an increase in efficiency that’s logarithmic and compounding in effect on the substrate to be cleaned, providing quick and safe results.

How to choose the right High Power Ultrasonic cleaner for your needs

When choosing the right high-power ultrasonic cleaner for your needs, there are several factors which you should take into consideration.

  • The first factor is the tank’s size, which is important to ensure the items you are cleaning fit comfortably inside.
  • The wattage of the HPU is also important, as this determines the power output and ability to break down dirt and contaminants.
  • Adjustable timer and temperature settings are also important, as these let you fine-tune the cleaning process to suit your needs best.
  • You should also check the noise levels of the HPU, as this determines how loud the device will be when operating. If you want a quiet device that doesn’t disrupt the environment, you should opt for an HPU with a noise rating of less than 60 dB.

HPUs are quickly becoming the go-to cleaning device for many people, and with the right consultation, they could be a very effective and efficient addition to your cleaning needs.
