How Triple 7 Can Protect Your Ship From Corrosive Acid Descalers?

How Does Triple 7 Work? Explaining the Technology That Protects Ships From Corrosive Acid Descalers

The Triple 7 system is a revolutionary technology that is able to neutralise corrosive acid descalers. It is a new way of fighting corrosion and it has been developed by the company TechnoMarine. This innovative technology has been made possible thanks to the use of new materials that are able to resist high temperatures and corrosive substances. The system works by injecting sodium hydroxide into the water tank, which then reacts with the acid in order to produce a salt solution and water vapour.

How Triple 7 Worked out for the Australian Defence Force?

Due to the usage of acidic descalers, the Australian Defence Force experienced considerable corrosion throughout its pipework systems, including heat exchangers and fire mains.

In addition to the routine flushing of the pipework systems to eliminate limescale build-ups, the heat exchangers had to be removed for exterior cleaning, adding to the complexity of Defence maintenance.

The Australian Defence Force utilised a hydrochloric acid-based limescale remover that caused corrosion and was expensive to maintain and replace. Limescale and calcium deposits have typically been removed with hydrochloric acid. Hydrochloric acid is a Dangerous Good having severely corrosive qualities classified as a Class 8 Dangerous Good.

As a result of HCl descalent being left in the system unintentionally for too long and/or being stuck inside ‘dead legs’ of the pipework, the Australian Defence Force faced considerable corrosion and high expenses connected with the repair of heat exchangers and fire systems. In addition, the product had difficulty with handling and could not be used in restricted locations.

The following labels are required for products containing hydrochloric acid: POISON! DANGER! CORROSIVE. SEVERE BURNS TO ALL BODY TISSUE ARE CAUSED BY LIQUID AND MIST. SWALLOWED OR INHALED IT COULD BE DEADLY. LUNG DAMAGE MAY RESULT FROM INHALATION.

Triple7 Enviroscale

The Challenge: How can the Australian Defence Force maintain its high-cost assets while lowering labour costs and reducing asset damage to meet the constant demands of safety and environmental compliance?

Solution: Triple 7 Enviroscale – Using this new descaler formula, corrosion caused by hydrochloric acid can be eliminated. Environmental Fluid’s revolutionary product prevents heat exchangers from damage while cleaning, saving maintenance costs and reducing the need for outside contractors. Envirofluid researchers developed a safe, effective, and cost-effective descaler by borrowing inspiration from naturally occurring plants and animals.

Triple 7 Enviroscale was used in place of the hydrochloric acid-based cleaning chemical. The scale may be eliminated from practically any surface using the potent botanical formula without causing damage to the surface material.

The Australian Defence Force was able to minimise high WHS risks, lower disposal costs, and eliminate corrosion difficulties by utilising a non-hazardous substance that satisfied tight defence criteria (NSN 6850-66-152-0080 [20 Litre] and NSN 6850-66-152-0081 [200 Litre]).

This approach enables pipes and exchangers to be flushed in place without risk of corrosion or damage to elastomeric surfaces, saving time and money for the Australian Defence Force.
